ACI is leaving Aave

Hello guys,
Very sad but logical decision here, I’m very sad as an AAVE believer and proud delegator of ACI…You guys did an amazing job, hats off. Money will follow you wherever you’ll bounce next.
Take care

As one of your delegators, I want to thank you for representing me in the AAVE DAO, your many contributions to AAVE, and the DeFi ecosystem. Best wishes on your new endeavors.

Marc undeniably drove change and pushed Aave to capture value through aggressive positioning.

That said, value capture and value retention are different things. Governance influence is a finite resource. When you repeatedly go all-in and lose consensus, the long-term cost is a gradual erosion of influence. Some ecosystem relationships may have evolved differently under a lower-friction approach.

Aave doesn’t need kings. It needs durable alignment between service providers, delegates, and capital.

Big shoes to fill. ACI has strong minds and meaningful contributors as well. Hopefully the next chapter prioritizes durable alignment over tactical wins.

Thank you Marc, I mean really! We can’t thank you enough for your exceptional integrity and relentless hard work at ACI. You always go the extra mile to find the absolute best solution for the AAVE community and protocol, never taking the easy path for personal profit. Your strong moral values and dedication are inspiring and far too rare.
I feel sad today to see you leaving but at the same time excited to discover what you will be building next! :raising_hands: Be reassured: I’ll be watching :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

I am deeply saddened by this news.

Aave V3’s success is a direct result of the incredible, professional work from the ACI team. It was truly an honor to work with you. Thank you.

I think there is a broader lesson here for the DAO industry.:

Many DAOs allow the same actors to simultaneously hold significant delegate power while also being major budget recipients as service providers. When these two roles converge, some degree of conflict of interest becomes structurally difficult to avoid.

Delegates are expected to provide oversight and accountability, while service providers are responsible for execution. When the same parties occupy both positions, the separation between governance and operations becomes blurred.

We can see versions of this dynamic across several DAOs; for example in Lido DAO, and ENS DAO where large ecosystem contributors also hold meaningful governance influence.

As DAO governance matures, designing clear separation between execution and oversight will likely become increasingly important.

ACI’s work in Aave has been of the highest standard possible. We’ve always been very complimentary of how good the team has been and how they’ve helped develop Aave into an absolute machine at the top of DeFi. Personally, Marc always supported LBS Blockchain as a delegate when I was there - big thanks to the ACI team for all they’ve done over the years.

Thanks a lot. AAVE would not have been AAVE today without ACI’s contributions.

On behalf of the TokenLogic team, we sincerely thank the Aave Chan Initiative for its three remarkable years of service to the Aave DAO. The numbers speak for themselves, but what stands out most is the sheer energy and conviction ACI brought to every initiative. From building governance tooling and coordination systems to managing incentive programs, being a growth engine on the protocol, serving on the Aave Liquidity Committee, and pushing for transparency at every turn, ACI helped shape the culture and operational backbone of Aave governance. We have learned a great deal working alongside Marc and the team. Their impact on the protocol will be felt long after this chapter closes. With Love, we wish the entire ACI team all the best in their next endeavour.

Exactly. In general, Defi protocol governance is subpar when comparing the amount of money involved. A lot of insider/SP/delegates are making money off a profitable protocol in different ways. Hope when the dust settled, AAVE can move to the right direction and set an example to other protocols.

ACI has made some contributions in terms of protocol growth. Although no big incidents in AAVE happened during the last few years, a risk reward adjusted approached is needed to let the protocol have a sustainable growth path. That’s the only way to build a protocol for long term.
