AAVE GHO as a fee token on Chainlink CCIP

Hi everyone, Raoul from Chainlink Labs here, I’m happy to share a recent update on cross-chain GHO.

Expanding upon the success of launching cross-chain GHO—enabled by the integration of Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP)—we’re happy to share that GHO will be supported by CCIP as a fee payment option, in addition to the existing fee payment options of native blockchain gas tokens (e.g., ETH/WETH) and LINK. CCIP fees cover the estimated gas costs of completing transactions on the destination chain and the premium paid to CCIP service providers.

Adding support for GHO as a fee token on CCIP will help significantly reduce payment friction for developers building cross-chain applications involving GHO and for users bridging their GHO between chains. This marks the first time a stablecoin will be supported as a fee payment option for CCIP transactions, reflecting Chainlink’s long-standing relationship and collaboration with the Aave community. No action will be required from Aave DAO to enable this functionality.

Fee support for GHO on CCIP will roll out in the coming weeks, beginning with Ethereum and Arbitrum, and expanding to additional chains over time as GHO becomes transferable across more chains. We look forward to continuing to help support the adoption of the Aave protocol and GHO for years to come.
