[Public Good] Event Horizon Delegate Platform

Key Info

Background

Most DAOs face a problem: not enough people care to vote, and those who do care don’t have much influence. This is such a significant issue that it’s one of Aave’s 3 core areas of focus for Requests for Grants. Aave currently relies on private individual delegates to solve this problem. Event Horizon, by contrast, is a public good, a public-access delegate.

While individual delegates certainly add incredible value to the Aave Ecosystem, so would an allotment dedicated to the smaller retail participant. Event Horizon slots into the Aave ecosystem in a similar fashion to a standard delegate. However, rather than the block voting based on the decision of one individual, it votes with the collective cognition of hundreds of individual, retail community members.

The Event Horizon Voter Pass is a free to mint, soul-bound NFT. Event Horizon duplicates every Snapshot from Aave onto our voting front-end where Voter Pass holders can vote. However the Event Horizon community votes, the entire delegation votes. Since our delegation votes every time, those who do show up have been able to achieve up to a 3000x multiple on their voting authority relative to cost to mint. This model of Implicit Delegation rewards participation, not capital.

No one is being paid to vote. Those who show up do so because they are rewarded with governance authority. This model therefore self-selects, and rewards, those most interested in governance with governance.

One of the greatest barriers to participation is a lack of voice due to lack of capital. When voice is a direct facet of capital, most community members simply lack the means to have an impactful say under any conditions. If one has $500 of AAVE today, their vote is effectively meaningless. Implicit delegation and public access governance changes this.

Implicit Delegation is a model by which the full public governance block mobilizes in favor of the consensus of those who do vote, thereby implicitly delegating the authority of those who don’t vote.

When participation is low… each voter receives a larger slice of the public access pie. This means the fewer people there are voting, the more incentive there is for someone new to come and participate.

When participation is high… there are more voters splitting the same pie, however, retail participation is high, which is a great win for the ecosystem.

Implicit Delegation represents an effort to offer an alternative, and additional, new paradigm around means of influence. A shift from today’s entirely capital-centric to a more retail-friendly participation-centric model.

Past Performance:

And, the above is not just theory. The Event Horizon community is already actively meta-governing AAVE, Uniswap, Compound, and ShapeShift.

Since its inception just a few months ago, the Event Horizon protocol has processed nearly 70 metagovernance proposals, over 50 of which were AAVE proposals, and has placed over $2,500,000 of governance authority and enfranchisement directly into the hands of the retail voter, a feat not seen anywhere else in the DAO space.

Across all proposals for which the Event Horizon Community has participated, the community’s cumulative voter footprint is on pace to exceed $5,000,000 by April.

Number of Meta-Proposals Passed >70
Our community members have participated in and passed 70 metagovernance proposals.

Voter Participation: >30%
Over thirty percent of our community members have participated in our meta-governance proposals. Some participants have voted as many as 61 times in under 5 months. Check out the latest info on our leaderboard: EventHorizon.vote/leaderboard

Average Authority Mobilized per Participating Passholder: >$100,000 (and counting)
For the cost of $3 in gas, each participating passholder has mobilized an average of just over $60,000 in authority governance authority across all meta-governance proposals passed.

About us

Event Horizon was founded by Jordan Karstadt, Christian Gonzalez and Migdam Gebril. While we work on building the product, we do not control how Event Horizon votes. The voting system is entirely automated. But some background about who we are:

Jordan Karstadt – Serial entrepreneur and trader in the space since 2014 and former director of the first digital currency-based 501(c)(3) non-profit. Jordan’s last company, Omni Mobile d.b.a OmPay, a crypto payments solution, was acquired by the largest hotel franchise in the US, Wyndham Hotels.

Christian Gonzalez – Degree from McGill University in both Physics and Philosophy. In the space since 2012, Christian was an AI Data Scientist working on drone swarms, superconductor and quantum computers before running Saddle Finance’s (peak TVL $400m) partnerships division where by the time he left he brought in 99% of their TVL through partnerships. Writes moral philosophy in his spare time.

Migdam Gebril – NYU Computer Science graduate. Lead software developer for a leading HFT. Grew into a dual-role as tech lead and commodity futures trader at a market making proprietary trading firm ($22b monthly volume).
